faking Slashing Grace

I see from DATA-3826
"Slashing Grace feat (from ACG) does not allow slashing weapon to be
treated as piercing for class abilities and feats (e.g. Swashbuckler
Weapon Training)" that Slashing Grace doesn't work with actual we4apons,
as their type is immutable.

So as a quick-fix bodge, I could hack up either

1) a hacked Scimitar called "Scimitar(SG)" which has the Piercing
quality, and only allow characters with Slashing Grace to use it.

or

2) hack a Weapon Special Ability for the Custom Weapon dialog, to add
Piercing damage type.

Unfortunately my LST-file Foo is not good enough to do so and get ready
for the weekend game session.


Any kind soul out there to tell me the recipe to quickly do either of
these  in a custom campaign file?

Personal choice really. Want to use PF 2e? Then grab 6.09.

The difference shouldn't be horrible, but 6.08 is the most "stable" release and incorporates the latest fixes, but we've discovered some bugs that are fixed in 6.09 (For example, the Age Category is acting up in 6.08, but works fine in 6.09)
* Will 6.09 be harder to install? (I know that there's all sorts of complexity with Java runtime...but the Windows installer seemed to make all that go away for 6.08...)

Shouldn't have any issues. Both versions use Java 11.

* Will 6.08 have fewer bugs?
Data bugs? I tried to keep them the same. With the 6.09 changes to UI it won't look as clean. But 6.08 is the production line, while 6.09 is newer features. Pathfinder 2e is currently built to run on 6.09, not 6.08 currently.
* Anything else?

I can't give an easy answer. 6.08 is smaller. Generally, I'd say use 6.08 as the "stable" production release. As we are winding down on progress with the java engine, I doubt there will be any significant movement on the development side of things. But if you find bugs and tie them to PF 2e functionality, then Bryan will fix them if possible.

Any Reason To Stick With 6.08.00 RC8 When 6.09.02 Is Available?

I see that two new releases have come out. Yay!

I'm a little confused why there are two versions. Especially now that we're entering archive mode, is there any reason that I would want 6.08 when 6.09 is available? For example,

* Will 6.08 be more compatible with my legacy homebrew LST code?
* Will 6.09 be harder to install? (I know that there's all sorts of complexity with Java runtime...but the Windows installer seemed to make all that go away for 6.08...)
* Will 6.08 have fewer bugs?
* Anything else?

Hi,

Yes, I intend to do a final release of 6.08.00 when I'm happy with the fixes and ready to release it to the world. We won't leave people on RC7 with pending fixes...

Yes, once PF2 is in a stable and as complete as possible condition 6.08 will go through the release process and all bug fixes and finished datasets will be released.

So what would we need to do to assume the maintenance of the project. I do not have Java experience, but I have a lot of Systems experience and thus a lot of porting experience on many platforms with many languages---and obviously, I'm versed in shell and Perl and can hack my way through Python.

We have had a fine 20 year run from the heady days of Bryan releasing hourly, then daily code updates, to the original D&D 3e SRD being released, through the choppy waters of getting hammered by WotC's refusal to consider the non-SRD info being included (prompting the formation of the separate corporation, Code Monkey Publishing), through the explosion of third party materials causing PCGen's code base to grow by leaps and bounds, though the formation of the 4e and the simultaneous rise of Pathfinder, Starfinder, and now the release of Pathfinder 2e.

Our website will remain up until such as a time that the host decides to quit maintaining it. Our forums have transitioned from Yahoo Groups to groups.io which are free and will continue, our discord channel will continue as long as there are people talking there, our old & broken wiki will be availible, and there is also a sub-reddit

I just want to say a big THANK YOU for all the hard work you all put
into this project over the years. For a long time it filled a unique,
even pioneering role in making the trivia of game design manageable. I
used pcgen a lot in the early days, and have returned to it off and on
over the years whenever I had a big design project I needed to get a
handle on. I'm sorry to see this retired, but as a former sfw geek
myself, I fully appreciate the design and maintenance challenges that
have become so burdensome.

I wish you all the best, whatever you turn your creative and coding
talents toward next.

Honestly the website is pennies per year. Most of the traffic is through our mailing list here, and github. But it is maintained and paid for by Tom Parker. AFAIK he doesn't have any plans to shut it down, but who knows what the future holds.
