Re: Bug (?) with bonus Oracle spells (PFRPG) #pathfinder #bug

I've noticed the same thing in PcGen 6.06 and the last two 6.08's.

I'm creating a 6th-level Oracle using the PFRPG Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide sources and have encountered what I think is a bug in the way spells known are calculated.  (But I wanted to check here before creating a JIRA ticket in case it's user error.)

When creating an Oracle, there are three sources of spells: normal "spells known", which increase as levels of Oracle are added; cure/inflict spells; and spells from the Oracle's Mystery.  The latter two use the phrases "In addition to the spells gained by oracles as they gain levels" and "These spells are in addition to the number of spells given on Table 2–6", respectively.  However, when using PCGen's spell selector, the cure/inflict spells and Mystery spells are counted against the spells known.  For example, my level 6 Oracle (with the Waves Mystery) should be able to learn three third-level spells, plus Cure Serious Wounds and Water Breathing.  Instead, the latter two spells are counted against my three and I'm only able to select a single additional third-level spell.

I have ensured that "Allow Use of Higher Spell Slots" is not (and never has been) enabled and began with my third-level spells (though I've since added others and seen the same problem with all spell levels), so I'm confident that isn't the issue.  My character file is available at https://gist.github.com/benblank/9f2a82e2cbd4255b8ff93d90911b645b.

I have noticed that Sorcerer bonus spells know from your chosen bloodline are counted against the spells known per level. Same problem as the Oracle maybe?

Re: Bug (?) with bonus Oracle spells (PFRPG) #pathfinder #bug

This pops up every now and again, and it usually boils down to not knowing how many spells they should have.

Can you give a concrete example? At level x I should have these many, but instead I have this value.

I'll take a look if the numbers don't match.

Cheers,

Andrew

Well exemple a level 3 sorcerer with the elemental bloodline should have 5 level 0 spells and 3 level 1 spells + the bonus spell Burning Hands. Every time I have tried making a sorcerer on PCgen it adds the bonus spell to your list but (for the exemple above) when you try to go from level 2 (2 level is 5 0 level spells and 2 1st level spells) to level 3 add that 3rd 1st level spell it says you already have 3 spells because of the bonus Burning hands. It happens at every level where you gain a bonus spell from the Bloodline.

Which version of the program are you using? , I'm using 6.06.01 and it's working fine.

Are you going into the "feats and abilities" tab and choosing the cure spells under class features, the spells should be automatically added to the spells known after picking the correct option.

Re: Bug (?) with bonus Oracle spells (PFRPG) #pathfinder #bug

Ben Blank

Okay, I just went through this with a first-level Oracle, and I think I see what's happening.

At first level, an Oracle should have access to two first-level spells known, and upon rolling a new character, this is what I see.  However, after selecting the Cure Wounds class feature, PCGen is reporting three first-level spells known, with one already being Cure Light Wounds.  In other words, PCGen adds bonus spells to both the spell list and the total Spells Known.

So what I saw was not a bug, but just me being confused by how the bonus Spells Known were being presented.  Sorry for the confusion!

I don't know if i had submitted my bug report correctly but in starfinder with pcgen (haven't checked RC2 if there is this problem) it doesn't add any of the bonuses from gear boosts when i select them as a solider class. Also when i get armor upgrades or biological or tech body upgrades pcgen doesn't add what ever said upgrades give. i have deflective reinforcement (DR 5/-) and a thermal capacitor (Cold and fire resistance 5) and they aren't listed on my sheet besides being in my inventory.

yes and when selecting gear boosts they go under class features, and the armor upgrades i have to select to make a custom thing of armor and pcgen knows how many slots each piece of armor gets but doesnt add the special properties of each upgrade. i also forgot to add that pcgen puts my ability score mods under a misc mod for my saving throws

Pathfinder draconic Sorcerer troubles with equipment in 6.08.00 RC02 #pathfinder #bug

Tengu

Hi,
I currently run into two issues with my Level 7 Pathfinder sorcerer of draconic bloodline:
  1. I give him a "robe of arcane heritage". In my reading of the rules this should now allow him to get a breath weapon as if he was Level 9, since the robe makes him Level 7+4=11 for bloodline features. This does not happen in PCGen.
    Can I correct this somehow?
  2. The weight of the total equipment is being miscalculated. Even though he has very little stuff and most of it is stowed away on his horse ("not carried"), there somehow is a lot of weight. Even after unequipping everything he has a weight total of 7.4 kg.
    How can I correct this?

@Budder Hunter - I looked into the data files and the basic mechanics to purchase the abilities and upgrades were implemented, but the game mechanics were not.  I looked and you have indeed submitted a data request, so we will get to those as soon as we can.

As for  the Ability vs Misc modifiers, I'm not sure yet what is causing that, but I will look into it. The Starfinder character sheet was always a bastardized hack of the standard fantasy sheet, and never really had the love and attention it needed to work appropriately.

Submit a bug report - https://pcgenorg.atlassian.net  under Data Bug, and we'll get it fixed.

Submit the character pcg file so we can see what is going on.

More issues with windows installer

markjmeans

  1. The Windows uninstall entry in Windows > Settings > Apps & Features lists PCGen as “6.08.00RC1” as the product name and shows nothing for program title or version number. What is expected is that the program name, version number and publisher name fields be defined correctly in the installer so that the uninstall process follows Windows guidelines and is intuitive to Windows users. In my opinion this is a critical bug that should delay release until resolved. However, it should be a very simple one to fix. It’s a 30 second task using Microsoft installer projects within MS Visual Studio and I will assume it’s nearly as simple using the nullsoft installer that PCGen uses (but I have no experience with nullsoft installer projects). Whomever wrote the installer project should examine the project properties and correct them. This fix alone should require an RC3 version before going ahead to full release.
  2. A homebrew set that loads in RC1 will not load in RC2. See attached homebrew files. The error log does not indicate specifically what is wrong, i.e. doesn’t say which campaign is unable to load.

And while not a problem with RC2 specifically, there is a long standing problem with PCGen and the paper format. PCGen should detect the OS culture settings and if it is US/English, should set the paper size to Letter instead of A4. I don’t know how many sheets of paper I’ve wasted because of this.

oh no! please do not rush to fulfil this request!

Like all too many programs, PCGen actually defaults to US/English in the first place, and you have to fiddle to get it to "OS language".

Don't track the language!

There is already a "Paper Type" setting on the Preferences > Output page, same tab where you set the output style sheets, and choose whether to save output with PC, print spells, print weapon proficiencies, and print default skills.

A really useful page of settings.

Re: More issues with RC2

Reread my request again. I haven’t asked for changing the PCGen UI language based on Windows language setting. ONLY the paper format.

If you use PCGen and export a PDF with the A4 setting, then load the PDF in Acrobat you see no obvious clues that the format was the wrong paper size. But if you print it to a printer that has Letter paper size you either get a print with margins that are not visible or you get a print with shrunk blurry text.

Having been a professional programmer since MS-DOS 3.x, I feel that 99+% of all “professional” Windows programs ever developed, starting with way back in the Windows 286 days, have a default page size setting based on the Windows culture setting or in later Windows versions based on the paper size setting specified by the Windows’ default printer. Using the Windows OS provided settings for printing defaults is the recommended behavior for all Windows programs and not doing this detracts from the intuitive nature and common behavior expected by any Windows user. PCGen should do the same.

PCGen should either read the Windows culture specific settings, or read the Windows default printer settings’ page size property and set the PCGen A4/Letter size accordingly. This should be done at first run only, or during the installation process or the page size setting drop down in PCGen should have a new default option “OS Default” when using Windows.
